Functions:
To follow developments in industrial production, employment and foreign and
domestic trade and analyze the changes in economic indicators both in
Israel and abroad.
To update the Ministry on economic trends and their significance.
To assist the Ministry in formulating policy and dealing with developments in
the short run.
To assist the Ministry's departments with economic analysis and data
processing.
To provide guidance for economic research on relevant topics.
To publish economic analyses and other material for both internal and
external use.
To promote Israeli industry among institutions, delegations and
entrepreneurs in Israel and abroad.
To represent the Ministry in relevant economic forums in Israel and
abroad.
Main Activities
Gathering economic information from institutions such as: the Central Bureau of
Statistics, the Bank of Israel, the Ministry of Finance, the Manufacturer's
Association, Chambers of Commerce, banks, etc. Ongoing dialogue is maintained with
these institutions.
Periodic reports are developed surveying economic trends and their significance.
Monthly surveys of employment, industrial production, exports and other topics are
prepared as required.
Keeping abreast of world economic and trade developments including: target markets,
trading blocs and international organizations.
Maintaining familiarity with economic information on the Internet and assisting in the
development of the Ministry's site.
Cooperation with academic and research institutions and practical application of their
research findings.
Initiating and guiding external research.
Research papers on such topics as profitability and concentration in exports, the
stock of industrial capital, the development of human capital, etc.
Meetings and lectures in local and overseas forums and representation of the
Ministry in international economic organizations such as the OECD.
